Welcome to
Trinity Lutheran Church

As a loving community of believers centered in Christ, we are called by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to devote our time, talent and resources in the proclamation of the Good News to all, and in the stewardship of God's creation.

Message from Richard Bachman,

A Volunteer Community
But as for you, brethren, do not
get weary of doing good.
2 THESSALONIANS 3:13

I recently finished a book written by a Pastor Bill Hybels entitled The Volunteer Revolution.
This book outlines why serving others is one of life’s richest experiences and how, when done willingly and effectively, it can create positive changes in a church’s community and oneself.
The following are thoughts and passages from the book which I found particularly interesting. I also hope you will find them insightful.
- Volunteers discover that serving/participating is much more satisfying than just attending church and not taking an active part in the church’s ministries and programs.
- Acts of love and kindness toward others can change lives, churches and communities.
- The Kingdom of God cannot advance through paid staff alone.
- True fulfillment in life will never come through self-gratification.
- Take every opportunity to serve ‒ open the door for others, volunteer to take out the trash or stack the chairs, take the arm of the elderly person, assist the child, and meet others’ needs.
- When people extend themselves beyond their own concerns, they always change.
- When we are “other-focused”, those that we help feel loved, nurtured, secure, and blessed.
- A God-honoring church can’t be built with a congregation of consumers and spectators.
- In considering volunteering, ask yourself “What
am I good at?” “What energizes me?”
- Ask yourself “What special talents and abilities can I bring to our group effort?”
- When opportunities to serve arise, check it out ‒ try it ‒ take a risk ‒ learn something new.
- Look honestly at your schedule ‒ see if the serving opportunity fits so you can serve well.
- For current volunteers, don't hesitate to ask other people to serve. Some folks just need to be asked and then they will get involved.
- New volunteers need support and checking-in to assure they feel effective in what they're doing. A volunteer's time should not be wasted. Volunteers need to know they're valued.
- The life of servant hood isn't a sprint, but a marathon.
- Sincere, energized servant hood must flow from an ongoing experience of God's presence and love.
- When you are squarely in God’s service, you will have a feeling that compares to no other.
- Every day we have the opportunity to create a world more in keeping with the values we hold dear.
- The church needs to make a commitment to offer volunteers opportunities to serve conscientiously in an active faith community which touches their hearts, gives them joy, and energizes them for continued service to God and other followers of Jesus Christ.
